Artist Research- Angie Lewin

Born in 1964, Angie Lewin is a British, contemporary printmaker, painter and designer. She went to university of the arts london and camberwell college of arts. She uses linocut, wood engraving, lithography and screen printing to create her designs. She is influenced by flowers and nature to create bold, abstract prints.

In her artwork I can see circle shapes, in the first one there are autumnal colours and in the second one there are unrealistic more abstract colours, there are lots of lines that are bold and some of them aren’t, and the lines are curvy and wavy.  They don’t have any texture, it’s just flat.  They are block colours, it doesn’t really have any tone except she’s made layers which make it look more 3D.  There isn’t a regular pattern.  Her works are full and busy and I think they are composed or put together well.

It looks nice because I like it because of the shapes and colours. I have been inspired because I can use more of an abstract approach instead of realistic.  I can print layers to make a more 3D effect.

Her work links with our current project because she uses the themes nature and organic and uses the linocut print method we used.

  1. Poppie please revisit this post as soon as possible. A really thorough artist post will really strengthen your grades for these units. Please comment on…..
    Her use of colour
What technique she uses – Lino and woodcut, how do these processes effect the type of marks she creates.
The theme of her work, how is she inspired?
What do you like about her work? What ideas could you transfer into your own work?
